Eight year anniversary of the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia marked by tributes

Today, on the eight year anniversary of the murder of Daphne Caruana Gaizia, Opposition politicians in Malta and journalists worldwide are writing tributes for the slain journalist. Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered for her reporting and investigations with her contract killers currently serving life sentences for her murder. The man accused of commissioning her murder, Yorgen Fenech, still needs to go trial.

The Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation has reiterated its calls for full justice by holding to account all those who ordered and carried out her murder and to dismantle the system that enabled it. A public inquiry into her murder found the State responsible for creating the conditions that enabled it, including by granting widespread impunity to politicians accused of serious crimes. Daphne Caruana Galizia was investigating major cases of government corruption before her murder, including the Vitals and Electrogas cases.

No Labour Party politician has paid tribute to the slain journalist yet.

Events in Malta are also ongoing to commemorate her work. A silent gathering will be held at the location of her murder in Bidnija at 3pm. Events poster at the end of the article.
