Police take action against dangerous driving and illegal street racing in Ta’ Qali and Mosta

Police carried out a series of inspections last night in the Ta’ Qali area following reports of dangerous driving and illegal street racing.

While patrolling Triq San Ġakbu in Ħ’Attard, officers noticed two vehicles being driven at excessive speed and appearing to race each other. Police followed the vehicles and observed the drivers ignoring traffic signals, performing dangerous manoeuvres and creating a serious risk to other road users. The vehicles were later stopped, and the drivers, two 18-year-old youths, were identified and informed that they will be facing charges.

Later on, during a separate patrol in Triq Durumblat, Mosta, police observed three other vehicles travelling at high speed, with one driver attempting to overtake by driving against traffic. Officers managed to stop one of the vehicles and identify its driver, while the other two vehicles were traced shortly afterwards with the assistance of traffic enforcement units.

The three drivers, two aged 21 and another aged 26, were also informed that charges will be issued against them.

Police reiterated that dangerous driving and illegal street racing pose a serious threat to life and stressed that enforcement actions will continue against anyone who breaks the law and puts others at risk on the road.
