EU begins probe on X.com and Grok over sexualised deep-fakes and pedophile content

The European Union has launched an investigation on X.com and its AI-bot called Grok over sexualised deep-fakes and pedophile content. Over the past few weeks, many women reported that X.com users were using Grok to reproduce images of them without clothes including sexually explicit content.  These acts constitute a violation of the Digital Services Act according to the EU Commission.

EU Digital Services Commissioner Henna Virkkune said that “Creating fake, sexual images of women and children is a cruel and unacceptable form of abuse. We will not accept that. This includes the risk of spreading illegal content in the EU, like fake sexual images and child abuse material. We have also extended our on-going investigation on X, to evaluate whether X diligently assessed and mitigated all systemic risks associated with its recommender systems.”

Earlier this year X.com was fined for other breaches of the Digital Services Act including its lack of transparency over its advertisers. A fine of up to €120 million was been issued. Elon Musk and the US government retaliated by issuing a stream of disinformation and propaganda against the European Union. Both the US government and Elon Musk are supporting the pro-Russian far-right parties in Europe.

Elon Musk denied the allegations and said that Grok does not produce illegal images and as operating principle it obeys the laws of any given country or state.
