Xewkija Tigers complete BOV Challenge Cup semi-final line-up after narrow win

Xewkija Tigers secured their place in the semi-finals of the BOV Challenge Cup after edging past Gudja United 3-2 in an entertaining quarter-final clash at the Centenary Stadium on Thursday.

They now join Birzebbuga St. Peterโ€™s, Melita and SK Victoria Wanderers in the last four of the competition.

The match got off to a lively start, with Brian Parada putting Xewkija ahead on 19 minutes. However, Gudja responded almost immediately, as Jamie Carbone levelled the score just two minutes later.

Matthias Said restored Xewkijaโ€™s advantage on 28 minutes, but the lead was short-lived once again, with Santiago De Flavia equalising on the half-hour mark. Parada ultimately proved decisive, scoring his second of the match to hand Jesmond Zammitโ€™s side a 3-2 victory.

A day earlier, Birzebbuga St. Peterโ€™s booked their semi-final spot with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Kercem Ajax at the Centenary Stadium. Leo Agius netted the decisive goal late in the game, striking in the 84th minute to seal progression.

Meanwhile, at the Gozo Stadium, SK Victoria Wanderers overcame Xaghra United 4-2 in a goal-filled encounter. Juan Pena opened the scoring on 20 minutes, only for Lucas Farrugia to equalise shortly after. Pena restored the Wanderersโ€™ lead on 29 minutes, but Yousouf Abedi once again brought Xaghra level before half-time. The Wanderers pulled away in the second half, with goals from Mustapha Amodu and Neil Camilleri securing the win.

Melita were the first team to reach the semi-finals, having defeated Pietร  Hotspurs earlier in the week at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Jesus Yepez scored the only goal of the match, converting a penalty early in the second half to send his side through.

With the semi-final line-up now confirmed, the race for the BOV Challenge Cup trophy moves into itsย  final stage with the semi finals to be played on 25th and 26th April in Gozo
