I know what they think of the press: “kapuljat”

I know what the Minister of Justice, Jonathan Attard, and all the merry Labour men and women who are pushing their totalitarian press reform, think of the press. The minority of journalists who have remained silent on Labour’s press reform are behaving like naive children who are oblivious of the fact that the strange men who offered them, sweets, have actually abducted them.

On the day that Daphne Caruana Galizia was murdered, on the 16th October of 2017, Labour activists who today occupy very high positions in the cabinet and in Robert Abela’s Office were chanting joyfully

“U Daphne kapuljat,
Hallelujah,
U Daphne kupuljat,
Hallelujah”
Viva l-Labour,
Viva l-Labour
Hey, hey.”

They then proceeded to a nearby bar and got drunk.

The minority of journalists who are going along with this press reform are like sheep being led to the slaughterhouse.

  2. […] First of all, there is no surprise at the fact that Robert Abela and the Labour Party would try to bury Daphne’s memory. The Labour Party has become the Party that is explicitly against justice and against freedom of speech and Labour will not change its position because these positions are essential to its survival. However, by visiting exclusively and solely Karin Grech’s monument, instead of visiting all the shrines or monuments dedicated to political victims, Robert Abela is also unashamedly showing his and his Party’s attitude to political victims: only Labour lives matter. And this is no surprising at all. These are the same people who cheered and celebrated Daphne’s murder. […]

  4. […] Let’s be reasonable, however. Threats of fascist fantasies don’t come from the PN, nor the far-right which has long been subdued. We already face threats of authoritarian realities by our present government. And the same people who sign and dance at “Bella Ciao” during Labour Party festivities, are also the same people who cheered the murder of a journalist. […]

  6. […] I was made aware that Malta was sliding into authoritarianism with a violent event that shattered what many like me had taken for granted: the bombing and murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia that eliminated Malta’s 4th pillar of democracy. This event made me aware that our democracy may be at risk. It was a late alarm bell for me, that for a long time had distraught me with feelings of culpability about my complicity in having supported a criminal organisation in government. Others in the Labour Party did not share these feelings, like today’s Justice Minister, Jonathan Attard who rejoiced Daphne’s murder with chants of “minced meat”. […]
