Ramon Mercieca’s resignation is not enough and the public deserves an inquiry into his actions. We need to know why despite the mountains of evidence and the thousands of FIAU reports, no one politician of Joseph Muscat’s administration has yet been arraigned over corruption and money laundering. We need to know how and why Rosianne Cutajar got away with corruption, bribery, money laundering, and tax evasion while the Deputy Police Commissioner, Ramon Mercieca was present at her party.
More importantly, we need to know about Ramon Mercieca’s business interests which may be intertwined with Darren Casha’s, the man who is alleged to have frauded people over the More Supermarkets fiasco.
Tiny slips and human error eventually lead one to the obvious. Ramon Mercieca’s daughter is organising a prom at Darren Casha’s Medasia, and people got to know about this because she posted the poster on Instagram. So, we know then that Ramon Mercieca has a relationship with Darren Casha.
Ramon Mercieca may claim that there is nothing wrong in this relationship, and if so, there may be nothing wrong then for him to disclose all his business and financial dealings. And even such a disclosure would not be enough. Anyone could hide their business deals via third parties.
The impunity in this country is rampant and there is all good reason to be suspicious of a Deputy Police Commissioner who is attending parties of a corrupt politician along with shady businessmen. I’m being diplomatic here and outlining a simple step forward of what should occur in a normal country because in reality, we all know, that things are very bloody serious and very criminal.
