There’s a reason why testimonies have claimed that magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech had dinner with a criminal suspect charged in front of her. Donatella Frendo Dimech is being accused of dining with Darren Debono at Jean Paul Sammut’s in Sliema last December. The reason why this story should be published is because the accusations have reached the Chief Judge who has asked testimonies to come forward and give evidence. Allegedly, present at the dinner between magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech and Darren Debono was also previous magistrate Carol Peralta. I’m still trying to understand the story, but such accusations will not be made lightly, for sure. I hope that by making these accusations public, the Magistrate will clear her name or for the testimonies to provide the evidence to the Chief Judge.
I have called Jean Paul Sammut and have spoken to him for around ten minutes. Actually, it was he who called me after I asked to call him via Whatsapp. Jean-Paul Sammut is one of Konrad Mizzi’s lawyers, a friend to Magistrate Carol Peralta and also a freemason – not with Simon Cusens’ group, but with another. He is also the lawyer to Charles Polidano and Sammut seems to be well-connected. Jean Paul Sammut has spoken to me about his health situation and gave me various details about his activities in December whilst insisting that this story is false. Sammut said that he is going through some serious health problems and was in and out of the hospital in December. He also says that he did indeed have dinner at his place with Carol Peralta and another Italian lawyer on the 1st of December at his place but it had nothing to do with this story. Additionally, he told me he had his birthday last December and invited some of his family members for some drinks. He insisted he never met Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech in person and she never visited him. Sammut also told me that he still serves as Darren Debono’s lawyer but is not taking up court duties due to health reasons, and instead is doing work for Darren Debono which is only out-of-court.
