Out come the mob

With inevitable arrest and prosecution looming ever near, Joseph Muscat is falling back on the mob and his last layer of support as a last resort for protection. If all else fails, the only thing that can possibly protect him is the fear that Labour mobs can instil in the individuals involved in arresting him and prosecuting him. Old and plain traditional Labour thuggery.

There’s even a very willing idiot who is taking the initiative in organizing this mob and it’s none other than Labour employee and propagandist Manwel Cuschieri. Here he is seen encouraging his fellow I??na to come out in support of Joseph Muscat. What does Manwel Cuschieri think he is trying to achieve other than intimidating police officers?

Manuel Cuschieri’s main audience is now limited to a segment of the grey population that are mainly home bound and another segment of simpletons with very limited IQ. Staunch labourites who refuse to be hoodwinked or taken for a ride still recall Manuel Cuschieri after Labour won the 1996 general elections, extorting Labourites on his radio programme, to refrain from making exhorbitant demands on the Labour government and make gluttons out of themselves. This after we had suffered 25 years of injustices and discrimination under the Nationalist fascists. And even then the first thing Alfred Sant did despite continually lambasting the previous Nationalist administration for leaving a hole in the country’s finances, he upped and paid the Church authorities the 40m owed to them by the Nationalists while we had to go to court to seek redress for the injustices we had suffered. To add insult to injury the compensation one could be granted was capped at max. of 5000 maltese lira.
Manuel Cuschieri continuosly lambasts the opposition for their past and present shortcomings while at the same time the Labour in Government has made millioniares out of well known nationalist contractors and businessmen, besides rewarding staunch nationalist supporters with key government postions and promotions. Will these be taking to the streets as well in support of your beloved JM?
Manuel Cuschieri your credibilty is rock bottom. If you had any sense of dignity you would cease fanning flames on behalf of the current champagne Labour party after they first suspended your programme and now because Labour’s popularity is sliding downwards they recalled you to prop them up.

Prior to losing the 1996 election, the Nationalist Party had only been in government for nine years (after coming to power in the 1987 election), not the 25 years you mention.

In those nine years, the thuggery promoted by Labour was abolished in favour of democracy with independent institutions, the media was liberalised, women stopped being the property of their husbands, the university regained its dignity and was allowed to create its own courses again, and the slow process of applying for the European Union (promptly halted by Alfred Sant) began.

This is what you are calling fascism. This is the funny part. In Maltese politics, the Nationalist Party has always been more liberal, open-minded and standing for the rule of law than Labour. Labour has always been the more insular party, prone to violent outbursts when threatened.

Unfortunately, Joseph Muscat re-wrote the history of the Nationalist Party through his propaganda (and the shifting definition of the words ‘liberal’ and ‘conservative’) and the Nationalist Party started believing Muscat’s version of their own history (pandering to far-right sentiments) instead of theirs. After Simon Busuttil, who was the most left-leaning leader the Nationalists ever had (and even brought small parties into his opposition coalition), gave up the ghost (too soon, in my opinion, as he would have eventually beaten Muscat had he hung on), the Nationalist Party became desperate and chose a leader (Adrian Delia) who bashed immigrants and journalists. That did not last long, as it was so against what the party had stood for since 1987. Now, the party seems to be in a half-way house (and very confused) between the Delia version and its open-to-the-world-and-opportunity version.

When I hear people like you moaning about “injustices” and “demands”, I always wonder what it is you are on about. What kind of life and career are you leading that you are dependent on favours given to you by a government minister and feel injured if that favour is taken away? Manuel Cuschieri was (for once) right if he told Labour supporters not to make exorbitant demands of Labour in 1996. A government should not be there to dish out permits and jobs to its supporters. It should create an environment in which all people can reach their potential and thrive without begging for favours, and a bureaucracy which functions according to clear rules and can mete out justice without partisan political interference. If you are in regular need of holding t?te-?-t?tes with your elected representative rather than making your demands through the ballot box, the media, protests or formal channels, then you, the political system, or both, are wrong.
