20,000 is quite cheap for a previous Prime Minister of a G7 country to speak at an event, but then again, this is Matteo Renzi and he is being invited only out of vanity and simultaneously as payback for his past support to Joseph Muscat and the Labour Party.
A government department or ministry that is supposed to administer social welfare shouldn’t be organising lavish conferences with VIPs and they are completely out of place and out of context for such a department. Lavish conferences with VIPs are useful for the government to conduct commercial business and attract foreign direct investment.
