Some total imbeciles with no achievements in life give too much credit to themselves as they project their self-importance onto the public with fraud and boisterous comments.
Others, who are more sinister and by far more important and significant, pretend they are doing just a normal job while publicly working for the Mafia: Charles Mercieca, the unassuming lawyer of Yorgen Fenech is just one example. Charles Mercieca worked at the attorney general’s office soon after he graduated from university thanks to his father’s standing in the Labour Party: a successful ophthalmologist who was also a member of parliament and junior minister. Franco Mercieca, Charles’ father, is still friends with Joseph Muscat and through him, Joseph Muscat can connect and pass on information to Charles. For example. as part of the preparations for the legal defense team of Yorgen Fenech, Charles Mercieca met with Keith Schembri. The meeting was set up by Joseph Muscat who contacted Franco Mercieca and asked Franco to pass on Keith Schembri’s details to his son, Charles.
Charles Mercieca is staking his career with Yorgen Fenech, probably allured with the gratification of easy and quick money. This is his first and probably only major case he picked up after leaving the attorney-general. Losing this case would make him look like an idiot, despite raking up substantial fees from his rich client. Winning this case would put him at the top of the criminal-lawyer list, but I would say that his odds are very similar to a shitcoin bet, so Charles will most probably end up in tears.
Surely, having attempted to bribe a journalist for Yorgen’s sake, Charles is going all-in with his reputation for Yorgen Fenech. Good luck with that, Charles. You are going to need it.
