Malta is really a proper and stereotypical Mafia State and the government can’t make it even more obvious. Joseph Muscat tried to keep up appearances, but today, the Labour Party is embracing its reality of being a criminal organisation and no longer minds making a mockery of itself.
The Maltese government doesn’t want to engage with journalists and civil society to update legislation on free speech and rule-of-law, instead, it is going ahead to impose an authoritarian law to restrict free speech. Instead, this is with whom the Maltese government negotiates and makes deals with: a family of squatters who has been handed a historical property by Dom Mintoff in 1981. The squatters pay 508 rent every year for a fort with a pool they built and they are demanding the government to be given a villa in return for their eviction. Minister for the Economy Silvio Schembri went on record saying he doesn’t know what’s the problem with this issue and that the government is finding alternative housing for the squatters.
We’re like a Sicilian village run by the mafia and the Labour Party thinks “there’s no problem”. Woe unto any Maltese citizen who chooses a path of honesty, fair trade, and economic productivity instead of choosing a life of crime.
Jokes aside, it’s very true. You can get much ahead in Malta if you are a Labour Party associate and you’re involved in criminal activity and/or corruption and rent-seeking. Our country is in a very sorry state. Tal-biki.
