A long-time Labour activist, Ryan Spagnol has been appointed as cabinet secretary by Robert Abela while appointing the corrupt Tony Sultana as head of the civil service. Ryan could tolerate Robert Abela turning the Labour Party into an openly criminal organisation, but if there is something that Ryan can’t stand is giving in to Malta’s conservative forces.
Ryan is fuming over Robert Abela’s decision to turn down Chris Fearne’s abortion bill and replace it with a worse alternative. He is responsible for taking down the minutes of the cabinet, and it will be very interesting how he has covered the cabinet debates when Chris Fearne came up with his bill and eventually was replaced with Robert’s version. Ryan can’t express his position in the cabinet, of course, but his position with other Labour MPs is very clear and he is definitely not happy with his boss.
