Yesterday, I had some lengthy conversations with Pia Micallef and others who identify with the LGBT community. I am a man of many doubts and can quickly change my position when presented with evidence that goes against me, but not in this case. I was (hopefully), wrong on Pia Micallef and I’ll write why, but I am right on Labour’s pinkwashing. What I got wrong is that I failed to mention some important facts, which I will rectify.
First of all, Pia Micallef wanted to point out that she is only a volunteer at the Allied Rainbow Communities and she denied that Labour Party had anything to do with its foundation. She also said that she is no longer a Labour Party activist and that she wouldn’t be voting for the Labour Party except for a particular Labour candidate whom she has worked for in the past and still deeply respects. All is fair I think to say that I was in a similar position to her, having felt cheated and betrayed by my own Party so from my own end, she definitely deserves the benefit of the doubt.
Secondly, of course, I agree that Pride March is important and I used to attend it when it was just a dozen people marching through Republic Street with just two banners – looked on by bystanders with derision. I still think that Pride is important as a political event in a society which still has strong conservative forces – we have, after all, a Prime Minister who passed abortion legislation that was, in fact, worse than the previous status quo, and for this very reason I am weary of seeing Pride turning into a celebration sponsored by the government in exchange for its use as a prop for the interests of Labour politicians.
The same junior minister (parliamentary secretary) for Reform and Equality, Rebecca Butti?ie?, who is hosting the Europride event is the same Labour politician who, with a straight face, told Jean-Paul Sofia’s mother that a public inquiry was not necessary. There is nothing progressive about these demented opportunists who use progressive ideals to further their political careers in their own interests. And there are many obvious reasons why Rebecca Butti?ie? would allow herself to be used by the Labour Party as its brand for “progressive” policies because having been elected in Parliament in a byelection, she now seeks to take over (with the help of the Prime Minister and the Party’s machinery) the votes of an actual progressive Labour politician who actually stood against his own government for the right thing (Conrad Borg Manche). The Labour Party works and operates like a criminal organization – it has no interest in furthering any cause unless it serves the Prime Minister’s circle to get rich.
The general public should be informed of these matters, and I’ll gladly take the risk of divulging this information. I may sound too aggressive verbally, or offensive, but at least it gets the point across in an efficient manner. I don’t need to write academic papers to explain how the Labour Party is pinkwashing its authoritarianism and the total wreckage of the country.
To conclude I’ll be sharing this documentary about the history of the LGBT community which surely deserves more views. I’m also glad we are having this conversation and appreciative of those who take my criticism genuinely.
