Here’s another Nationalist Party lawyer who can’t say no to a job

Lawrence Gonzi, the ex-premier with an active LinkedIn page is another Nationalist Party lawyer who can’t say no to any kind of work. He’s the kind of man who would take on enough clients to live a comfortable life but is so stingy that instead of hiring taxis or employing drivers, he goes around the island chauffeured by his wife.

Lawrence Gonzi was the prelude to our current disaster: the imbecile before the total imbeciles took over. Many people in PN made the gross error of judgment of taking this guy seriously – he was so bad that he made us root for Joseph Muscat.

Anyway. Cutting a long story short, Lawrence Gonzi has recently, sent a very stupid letter to the Medicines Authority protesting the suspension of activity of a medical importer and distributor that did not conform to public standards. Very premier-like isn’t it?

Lawrence Gonzi used to be a champion for the well-being of society, but apparently, your principles and morality can be suspended as soon as you exit politics to prioritise your amoral business.

  1. Lawrence Gonzi is to Eddie Fenech Adami, what KMB was to Mintoff.

    1. Except that Lawrence Gonzi actually did win an election.

      1. Yes, because his opponent was a drunk who didn’t inspire confidence in the electoral, especially with his drunken campaigns antics. Ye,t it was still a very close win. Tells you a lot, doesn’t it?

    2. Despite the turbulent 4 years during when KMB was Prime Minister and leader of the MLP the nazs only managed to scrape a victory with some 4,700 votes majority. It was a time when labour was not subject to the whims and fancies of the maltese business and criminal cabal. There were no faustinian pacts. Hardcore labourites stood fast together leaving no room for turncoats and infiltrators.

This man is one of the main reasons JM and his corrupt gang got voted into office because he offered nothing to the country. He was only interested in his pseudo catholic indoctrination and preaching his high moral values whilst the country went to the dogs. Gonzi will be long remembered for losing the divorce referendum whilst then voting against the will of the people in parliament. Bicca ex president ta l-azzjonj Kattolika li spicca Prim Ministru!

Just a small point, Dr Gonzi is not actively involved in the PN any more.

Ten years since leaving politics, is not exactly a case of revolving doors. His termination package was generous but a pittance compared to his successor who still costs us about a million annually with out any time capping.

    1. I think people commenting here miss the point that a person who has values would supposedly apply these values both in politics and private life.

The above link gives a transparent overview of Lawrence Gonzi’ s 10 year leadership (although I believe the negatives are biased and somewhat schewed).

You fail to mention Lawrence Gonzi’s success as a leader and you seem to forget that under his leadership Malta evolved into a developed country for a short period of time until 2013.
The article omits his foresight and innovative development of the computerisation of identity cards, passports, driving licences, student id’s, health records etc. You forget the inauguration of new schools every year, the incentives for tourism, the conservation of the ONE state of the art hospital (of which we could have enjoyed FOUR), the conception of a respected discrete financial services sector….. etc. The bigger ones are mentioned in the article above where he is referred to as a statesman . I haven’t seen any of those around for a decade.
I ask ……. what have we achieved (as a country ..not personally in our pockets dropping out of the sky after bouncing off the honest hard working tax payers on earth) in the passed 10 years post Gonzi?

So please – stop blaming Lawrence Gonzi.
It requires a colossal amount of courage to aspire to run a country with an aim to advance and progress that country.
This administration had it all laid out perfectly on a silver platter – they could have improved on it for the good of the country. Instead…….. this is where we are today. And it is no fault of Lawrence Gonzi.

    1. Malta was in fact a wreck during his govermnment and please refrain from posting links of other sites, unnecessarily. Thanks

      1. I fully agree with Jacqui. It is your sweeping statements that I find unacceptable. Malta was never a “wreck” but perhaps at the time you formed part of the poisonous Labour propaganda that you still can’t shake off. Such writing will make you lose credibility fast and eventually readership.

Maybe a bit late but using the IT systems introduced under gonzi’s watch demonstrates the ignorance of people who speak out of blind faith

The tax systems VAT and IR were a compete joke and completely useless since not only did not communicate with each other but actually started on different years making reconciliation impossible. I believe that was by design.

A man child shot to head MITTS now MITA out of sheer nepotism. With a criminal record and his only work experience 10 years heading Austin Gatts office straight out of uni. I mean Claudio Grech

Under Austins watch hundreds of millions were squandered on IT systems that just were either not suited or complete disasters. One of those is ARMS. Ironically Konrad Mizzi started his working career heading one of those disaster IT systems at Enemalta. Were these honest mistakes? All I know is Austin Gatt went to net a cushy job heading one of Hili Group companies. PTL now owned by Hili and Alert Communications of trolley mania fame and many other IT “initiatives” benefited millions from ARMS

Problem with people here is ignorance bliss

Gonzi killed PN’s chance of ever being elected again due to his stubborness. If he had called an election a year before he lost control of the parliament instead of scraping on and being humiliated by Franco Debono and Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando, he would have lost by much less than 35 000 votes and the PN would maybe had a chance to rebuild after ten years and be elected again. Instead, he left the Party destitute with a debt of 30 million euros and basically destroyed it, paving the way for the corrupt PL to dominate the polls.

  8. Lawrence Gonzi has gone down in the annals of maltese political history history as the biggest loser at the General Elections. He got a thrashing and even though he and his inept team saw it coming they could not avert it. His parliamentary group was is disarray with the likes of Franco Debono and Jeffery Pullicino Orland exposing the inefficiencies and lambasting the Nazzs party on all counts. In 2013 unemployment was at 6.3% and Malta was placed under the excessive defict procedure for 2 years with 3.4% of GDP. Subsequently Labour reduced the deficit to 2.1% in 2015 clearing Malta of the ED procudure.
Lawrence Gonzi was the one who called the protests by the workers held in Valletta against the rising cost of living, “theatrics”. He consoled us by giving us 4 electric bulbs but regaled himself and his cohorts a euro 500 weekly rise. Lawrence Gonzi was responsible for the purchase of the BWSC power station and the oil scandal happened under his watch. He was also responsible for the great Arriva debacle. The divorce referendum. It was one big mess all round.
Forget about Lawrence Gonzi. Stop trying to defend the indefensible. Lawrence Gonzi is a loser and that is how he will forever be remembered. This is not poisnous labour propoganda this is the truth.
