Recently, I have covered the factions inside the Labour Party. I have also covered the faction that still supports Joseph Muscat. What I missed in this coverage is one very important name that acts as a bridge between Robert Abela’s faction and Joseph Muscat’s and he merits a post exclusively for him. This is Justice Minister Jonathan Attard who sang with his colleagues in celebration of the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.
Jonathan Attard was a previous Super ONE hack along with Charlon Gouder and like many Super ONE hacks turned into a government fixer and full-time rent-seeker when Labour entered office. Silvio Debono of DB Group attended his wedding and Jonathan Attard also worked for previous Economy Minister Chris Cardona among other ministers. As one would expect many of these contracts were fake because there isn’t a lot of consultancy that Jonathan Cardona can provide to the Economy Ministry.
Today, Jonathan Attard is Justice Minister because he has been delegated a very specific and particular task that suits him well. The coterie of Super ONE propagandists including Charlon Gouder and Jonathan Attard have been trusted servants of Joseph Muscat and this is why they were awarded plenty of contracts and government promotions when Labour entered office. These rent-seeking propagandists were back then pushed into the government structures at the expense of other well-meaning Labour Party activists who were much more competent. Jonathan Attard and Charlon Gouder could be trusted because they were and still are unprincipled bigots who find no issue in being involved in illicit activity.
Robert Abela, who has a deal with Joseph Muscat to cover up and protect him, needs to delegate the task of covering up for Muscat to someone who could take the hit if shit goes wrong – and this is Jonathan Attard. This is why Robert Abela delegates his control over the Attorney-General to Jonathan Attard as Justice Minister – while Jonathan will be very willing to do Robert Abela’s bidding, Robert Abela can easily dump Jonathan Attard whenever he wants to on the grounds that Jonathan abused his position and his past friendship with Muscat to protect him. Or, at least that was Robert Abela’s original plan because by now, Jonathan Attard knows too much about Robert Abela. Jonathan is in direct contact with the Attorney-General Victoria Buttigieg, and thanks to this relationship, Robert Abela can conjure up frauds to abuse the judiciary and distort the process of justice.
This puts Jonathan Attard in an unwittingly very powerful position since he is currently the caretaker of Robert Abela’s deal with Joseph Muscat and Jonathan can leverage both parties for his own interest. The Attorney-General has been reduced to a pawn of the Justice Minister so Jonathan can leverage this deal to a great extent even without the knowledge of Robert Abela himself. This set-up couldn’t even be more criminal and Mafia-like if they wanted to.
There is at the end of the day no honour amongst thieves, so it will take only one mistake for this house of cards to collapse. They think they can get away with distorting the justice system of what is supposedly a liberal state, but in reality, their crimes are of a very aggravated nature.
