Schrödinger’s cabinet reshuffle

The Labour Party conducts regular surveys of its own and it is well aware that it is haemorrhaging votes so, The Malta Independent’s survey is no surprise for Labour. However, this does expose Labour’s weakness in public and as a result adds to the ever-increasing anxiety and panic of Robert Abela who is suddenly thinking what he previously thought was unthinkable and impossible: that he would get trashed in the election and lose power in total disgrace. His past criminal dealings with cocaine dealers will come back to haunt him apart from his extensive criminal cover-ups of Labour Party politicians including Joseph Muscat.

Robert Abela can’t lose the election – he would be finished. He would become dependent on Joseph Portelli or some other shady contractor and spend the rest of his life fighting court cases and criminal indictments. What started as a joy ride and a personal adventure will end up in his worst nightmare – and it will end in total shame and disgrace. The thing is that he currently enjoys attention within the Party because he has the authority. As soon as his power and authority are taken away from him, he will be just a criminal, a grifter, a huckster, and nobody apart from taking all the blame for destroying the Labour Party.

So, Robert Abela still intends to do a cabinet reshuffle to intentionally blame his ministers for the government’s failings, and simultaneously consolidate control over an ever-increasing rebellious cabinet of ministers. However, despite his grandiose intention to make a show with this cabinet reshuffle, he still can’t take the leap and execute it. As time passes, Robert Abela is increasingly finding himself at war with his own party.

One particular Minister who has been complaining about this potential cabinet reshuffle is Aaron Farrugia, the Minister for Transport and Infrastructure because Farrugia is on the removals list. Apparently, Aaron Farrugia didn’t make enough theatre to convince the electorate that Labour is environmentally friendly as the country is wrecked by rampant Jungle Rules construction.

At this point, Robert Abela has completely abandoned any pretences of governing the country and he is fighting for survival as he spends most of his time conducting marathons of public appearances, useless meetings and propaganda shows.
