I have sent some questions to Adrian Grima and am publishing them here to ensure he provides responses and defends his position. Adrian Grima is the Head of the Department of Maltese Language and yesterday called for the abrogation of the state of Israel. He is also the founder and previous organiser of a literary festival organised by Inizjamed which is funded by public and EU Funds. Throughout his responsibility for the festival, Adrian Grima made sure to invite as many authors as he could from all of the Mediterranean countries while constantly excluding Israeli authors. The festival is called The Malta Mediterranean Festival of Literature but it has consistently been used as a boycotting tool against Israel and Adrian himself is quite open about his BDS views.
Here are the questions that I have sent to him. I will also be forwarding questions about the University administration to see what they think about a head of department who outrightly promotes the boycotting and discrimination of Jews.
Yesterday, you called for the abrogation of the state of Israel following a terrorist attack by Hamas that killed hundreds of innocent civilians, women, and children. Do you think this position of yours is inappropriate given that you are the head of a university department and supposedly ought not to discriminate against anyone by race or ethnicity?
Given that you have employment and executive powers granted to you thanks to public funds (the University is publicly funded), how can you be fair to an Israeli, or Jewish person who seeks employment under your purview?
You are the founder of a literary festival organised by Inizjamed in Malta. For many years, you were given the responsibility of public funds to manage this festival. Throughout the Festival’s existence not once have you ever invited an author from Israel despite inviting authors from across the Mediterranean Sea. Do you think this is conducive to a peaceful Mediterranean debate?
Do you think you have left a huge legacy in Maltese literature of antisemitism, divisiveness, and hatred of Israel?
Do you think that Western and Russian literature is imbued with anti-Semitic and racist notions of Jewish people which you adopted in real life?
