Juan Bautista Azopardo is the most celebrated Maltese individual in the world

As part of my marketing and promotional campaign for my latest book The life and times of Juan Bautista Azopardo, I am giving several lectures and talks. You can listen to some of my talks so far here:

I have realised as I am making this series of talks that Juan Bautista Azopardo is the most celebrated Maltese individual in the whole world, and it’s quite telling about the state of our education, culture, and mentality.

Here is a Maltese who just because he fought for Argentina and built its first navy is considered a national hero and schools, public buildings, and roads are named after him in Argentina. Here in Malta, we celebrate foreign Christian saints more than we celebrate our national heroes and we have no single Maltese individual who is as celebrated as Juan Bautista Azopardo is celebrated in Argentina.

The main road of Senglea is named after him. Any connection with Senglea?

    1. Yes, he was from Senglea and grew up there. The road you are referring to is the coast road where he lived and grew up.

  2. Mhux Joseph Muscat ?
