Following the article I published yesterday, an insider from the Ethereum Foundation contacted me and we had a thirty-minute chat where I could ask some questions. This person has been involved in multiple crypto projects and is familiar with the origin story of various major crypto projects. He asked me to keep his anonymity and not to quote him but allowed me to use the information he gave me.
Vitalik Buterin never disclosed the extent and involvement of Wanxiang Group in the Ethereum Foundation when he went to work for Bo Shen of Wanxiang Group. The investment and collaboration with Buterin by the Chinese back then came as a surprise to some insiders who had opposed it and proposed a different course of action. It is also only recently thanks to Truth Labs that they are also learning the extent of Wanxiang’s involvement in the crypto industry and its close relationship with the Communist Party of China.
This is a developing story and there will be more people coming forward to speak about Ethereum’s history with their Chinese investors.
