More “hearsay” about Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa

Everything published about Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa is hearsay, except that he is executing the law without fear or favor. Angelo Gafa is flawless, and the crisis in the rule of law is your fault for believing in hearsay. If we published and wrote less the rule of law crisis would be solved. Yes, sure.

Angelo Gafa could have been delusional hadn’t he been conspiratorial – maybe, he’s both. The fact is that even the Labour Party is disappointed in Gafa for failing to make the law look as if it is working. Gafa’s fear and loathing are not limited to the Police, but have also spilled through the Ministry of Home Affairs having even influenced the previous dismissal of Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Psaila. The new Permanent Secretary has not entered office, yet. There is stagnation at the Ministry of Home Affairs which is exacerbated by the fact that Angelo Gafa and Byron Camilleri are no longer friends. There is no hearsay about Labour wanting him to retire in obscurity at the FIAU (the implication of his transfer to that particular position being that he wouldn’t have to do much).

Things are so complicated, however, that even Byron Camilleri’s ministry merits its investigations due to very serious and repeated gross failures in various entities and reports of rackets, and corruption similar to the social-benefits racket. Both Byron Camilleri and Angelo Gafa keep blaming each other for gross failures and none of them know what to do next. More fear and loathing with no solution in sight. The dysfunction that exists is uncannily similar to structural dysfunction in a criminal group – no one trusts each other because they are all in it for the wrong reasons and they are all compromised.

Before being forced to leave his post, Emanuel Psaila described Byron Camilleri as a “little child”. I’m sure that Angelo Gafa also merits this description because for him his position is only like a game and not a job he has to do with serious moral conviction. Now, he is frustrated that people don’t like his dangerous and infantile game, but he should have expected this. We are not stupid and we deserve better than a police commissioner who actively protects and covers up for organised criminals.
