It is true that Daphne Caruana Galizia was being monitored by the secret service before she was murdered

The hitmen who murdered Daphne Caruana Galizia have made a statement under oath in court alleging amongst many things, that other ministers were also involved in the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia including Chris Cardona who was also involved in the the HSBC hold-up of Qormi with Carmelo Abela. The statement says many other things and undoubtedly, the Degiorgio brothers are in a stage where they are trying to play a game to win something after being sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

So, although it is true that the Degiorgio brothers know many things that are in the public interest and that their information may lead to many other cases being solved, they are also deeply untrustworthy. They are after all criminals who look purely and exclusively after their interests even if this means hurting others.

Among the many things they have said two things I know to be true and for certain, but I can not confirm whether the Degiorgio brothers actually know these things or they are playing the lottery. I am not the investigator on their case and such statements should be handled with care.  What is true is that Carmelo Abelo was indeed under police investigation over the HSBC hold-up in Qormi.

In addition, what is also true is that the Malta Secret Services were indeed monitoring Daphne Caruana Galizia before she was murdered and they were doing so, partly, from what I certainly know as a fact, for the stories that she was publishing in relation to the government. They were not monitoring her for her own personal security. To put some context here, the Secret Services are a rowdy and non-professional bunch of politically useful tools that are used by the Prime Minister and don’t do meaningful intelligence work – counter-terrorism intelligence is provided by the French services and even the local services’ analysts are of foreign origin (quite strange, because usually, the prerequisite to work for the secret services is that you have to be a local citizen). It is also noteworthy that the same MSS officers monitoring Daphne Caruana Galizia before she was murdered are still in the employ of the MSS.
