Yorgen Fenech, who has an ongoing money laundering case in front of Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech is surely and sorely disappointed with her departure. He was having a very easy time with his money laundering case as the Magistrate cracked jokes with him in court, and during his latest court sitting, the Magistrate even told the police to stop bringing evidence to court, saying she was ready to issue a sentence. This was the court case that the police refused to speak about. Consider how serious this is: the police refused to communicate with the general public a very serious situation where they were expressly asked to stop presenting evidence in a case against one of Malta’s, allegedly most dangerous criminals.
The request for the Magistrate to the Police to stop presenting new evidence in court was highly irregular and Donatella Frendo Dimech has had a habit of writing sentences before the case ends and/or making deals with the accused over their sentence without the approval of either the prosecutor or the police. Having her removed from the financial crimes court will prevent these irregularities from happening again and Yorgen Fenech will rightfully have a harder time in court. The evidence against Yorgen Fenech in the case is also overwhelming and self-incriminating and as usual the Magistrate was too hard on the prosecutors and the police who presented the case.
One thing is for sure. For once, things are looking worse for Malta’s organised criminals as Donatella Frendo Dimech prepares her departure from the financial crimes court, and I suspect that Yorgen Fenech and other criminals won’t have any magistrate with whom they can crack jokes in court.
