Attorney General Victoria Buttigieg has yet to pronounce herself against the government’s proposed reforms to restrict her office’s powers to seize and freeze assets of suspected money launderers. The advice of the Attorney General is crucial in the legislation of criminal matters especially when it comes to very technical laws such as those related to money laundering, yet with regards to the money-laundering reforms an exception is being made to do completely without the advice of the AG and technical experts. The AG hasn’t even shown or expressed any opposition to the Justice Minister over these reforms.
So, it is the Labour Party’s scoundrels and corrupt consultants who are leading the charge. Robert Musumeci is supporting Justice Minister Jonathan Attard’s reforms. The lawyer-cum-architect who specialises in development and planning (or the lack of it) has even published an essay explaining his “academic” reasons why he supports Jonathan Attard’s reforms. This is how laws are made in the Banana Republic.
We all know why this bill is being rushed without any consultation and with the serious risk of putting Malta once again on the FATF’s Grey List. It’s an extended criminal organisation doing exactly what one expects it to do: pass laws that protect and support criminals affiliated and linked to the Labour Party and Prime Minister Robert Abela with the backing of dysfunctional institutions.
