The Maltese government pretended it was fighting Steward Health Care in an international tribunal in a process to recoup its lost proceeds from the fraudulent contracts signed with it. This was a humiliation against our national interest as Robert Abela kept doing his best to put a lid on the consequences of the court sentences in Malta. The International Chamber of Commerce has absolutely no authority and Malta’s case is just a joke to keep up appearances.
This is the level of humiliation and betrayal ourย Prime Minister, Robert Abela has succumbed to to keep up his criminal cover-ups of every Labour Party scandal. In this scandal in particular, he also has his interest at stake, because as a cabinet consultant, Joseph Muscat is blaming him for giving him the go-ahead to sign the contracts. In fact, Robert Abela is also a subject of the ongoing Magisterial inquiry on public hospitals fraud.
All of those who were involved in Steward’s sleaze and corruption it is in their interest to see the company go into bankruptcy.ย As the company goes under the control of a court-appointed administration and its assets liquidated to pay its creditors, those who were aggrieved and victimised by Steward’s behaviour will remain without justice and the Maltese government won’t recoup its lost investment. Those who successfully benefited from this sleaze will hope to quietly sail into the sunset.
Apart from abrogating the contract altogether and halting payments, the Maltese government should have sued Steward Health Care in the US apart from suing it in Malta and Spain. The government should have also used its executive power to take matters accordingly as soon as the constitutional court denounced the contracts as fraudulent. Those who allow the daylight looting of the nation’s assets have zero legitimacy to speak of the “national interest”.
