Those who think that the European Social Democrats (S&D) have communicated with the Labour Party in Malta warning it of Joseph Muscat’s re-election to the European Parliament are deluding themselves. The S&D have done nothing of the sort, and won’t do anything of the sort. The S&D are currently, out defending tooth and nail Pedro Sanchez’s current attempts to form a government against the principles of democracy and the rule of law, so they will probably not be bothered with Joseph Muscat’s past.
There are however, some MEPs within the S&D who are worried of Joseph Muscat’s return to the European Parliament within their fold, the Labour Party may want to know that Cyrus Engerer, today, at the European Parliament made an implicit reference to Joseph Muscat. He said:
“In a democracy, popularity should never make anyone believe they are above the law, or that they could decide which fundamental rights citizens can enjoy.”
I’m attaching a copy of the clip here, downloaded from the European Parliament’s website. When this thing would happen by MEPs from the opposing side, namely David Casa and Roberta Metsola, the Labour Party would scream “traitors” and whatnot. It would be interesting to see what other MEPs and Labour MEP candidates think of Cyrus Engerer’s speech and whether they think he is also a traitor.
