Street names have now become a tool for diplomacy and opposition, with the targets being embassies of belligerent states, particularly Russia. The streets of Russian embassies in Europe are gradually being renamed to figures and concepts that are unfriendly to the Kremlin.
Warsaw, Poland.
Right in front of the Russian Embassy in Warsaw, there is a park named after Aleksander Kami?ski, a Polish author and resistance fighter who was also anti-Soviet and anti-communist.
Slovakia, Bratislava.
The street of the Russian Embassy in Bratislava is called “Boris Nemtsov Street”. Boris Nemtsov was a veteran politician and Putin’s main political opponent until he was murdered in 2015.
Prague, Czech Republic.
The street is also named after Boris Nemtsov.
Riga, Latvia.
The capital city of Latvia, Riga has named the street of the Russian embassy to “Ukrainian Independence Street”.
Vilnius, Lithuania.
Vilnius, the capital city of Lithuania, also renamed the street of the Russian embassy to “Ukrainian Independence Street”.
