Europe does not need Azerbaijan’s gas. If we are purportedly purchasing gas from Azerbaijan to deter its aggression, how effective is this strategy when Azerbaijan has expelled 100,000 people from Nagorno-Karabakh and annexed it? Wasn’t this the same strategy that Europe applied to Russia, only to find that the end result was completely opposite to what was expected?
In additon, how can this policy ever be justified if Azerbaijan is not actually very significant as a gas station compared to other gas-rich countries, contrary to what is being projected in the media.
It is in fact NATO that should be a forewarner of this haphazard policy and the last entity to promote it. Jens Stoltenberg has a lot of questions to answer, especially the question as to why Europe isn’t looking for and building alternatives when today, there are plenty.
