As Silvio Grixti is taken to court, it’s good to remind the public that nothing has changed

It’s very easy to hit on Silvio Grixti, the only ex-Labour Party MP being charged with corruption, because Silvio Grixti was never part of Joseph Muscat’s or Robert Abela’s faction and his case was referred to the police by the OPM. Saviour Balzan, apart from helping Rosianne Cutajar rehabilitate her image, is also trying to help out Carmelo Abela by hitting against Jason Azzopardi.

The propaganda discourse about the selection of who is to be rehabilitated and who should not is primarily based on loyalties related to Robert Abela. Also note, that this kind of critical approach to a Labour MP by MaltaToday is very rare. Incidentally, on the same day, the Illum editorial carried an opinion in favour of Rosianne Cutajar. Instead of picking up on the doctor, Saviour Balzan should explain how much he was paid by Yorgen Fenech for his communication services after Fenech was arrested.

Fundamentally, an attack against Grixti without mentioning the underlying context is deceiving. The OPM still uses its power of incumbency to buy votes and leverage the social services for political support. The system is still inherently corrupt and the Labour Party even celebrates this.

Here is a propaganda video by Labour Party MEP candidate Jesmond Bonnello, where one of his constituents explains that he will vote for Bonnello after he was given housing thanks to Jesmond Bonnello’s referral to the Labour Party. Buying votes with gifts and favours is illegal according to electoral law.
