I’m trying to figure out the source of wealth of Reverend Carmelo Busuttil and will soon be collecting his public deeds to map out his whole history, but in the meantime I got to find out some interesting facts by the people of ?urrieq who know him well.
First of all, the mega-14-apartment project he applied for in Imqabba is a family project being developed on land four relatives inherited between them, so essentially, Carmelo Busuttil owns 25% of the project along with three other family members. He was entrusted to file the application himself after he offered himself and he also has a relative that works in the Planning Authority as a lawyer.
Secondly, the Reverend has been involved in various business initiatives throughout his life including a Maxims Pastizzeria outlet, and also a hall in the limits of ?al Far which he used to rent out to Natius Farrugia for his political activities (Natius Farrugia was the mayor of ?urrieq). In the past he also worked at the Curia’s property section.
Quite a creative and business-minded parish priest I would say.
