Some of my friends within Labour are accusing me of being unfair and too hard on Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri because “he isn’t corrupt” and he is “one of the good guys”.
Just because Byron Camilleri is not engaged in corruption that will enrich himself materially, it doesn’t mean he is one of the good guys. In fact, Byron Camilleri is as corrupt as the others, given that he is allowing, willingly and consciously, the dysfunction within the Police Force that is effectively ruining the country by leaving it without efficient security against organised crime. A truly, “young and inexperienced kid”.
Read how the Degiorgio brothers are able to circumvent the law and refuse to testify without any consequences whatsoever. If we had a Minister for Home Affairs who has the proper mindset in fighting organised crime, the Minister would be prompted to act immediately on such news, either by informing the Police Commissioner to act accordingly, or by rushing in laws in Parliament that would help the Police to effectively use punitive measures to force the Degiorgio brothers to testify. The only law that the Labour Party has rushed into effect was an Anti-Money Laundering law that made it easier for money-launderers not to get caught.
The Degiorgio brothers have to be punished severely by refusing to testify, including by keeping them locked in solitary confinement with absolutely no privileges whatsoever and consuming only the very minimum amount of food and water to survive. The conditions of their confinement should be difficult and rough as possible so they get finally bored and irritated enough to fulfill their duty and testify as soon as possible. If the guards taunt them a bit about their misery, that would also help speed up things a little.
The Degiorgio brothers are not ordinary criminals. They are criminal gunmen and fighters against the state who hold a totally different set of rules from the laws and rules of the state. They have their own organisation and network and they murder and kill people in cold-blood and have no remorse about it. This isn’t a case of criminals who are being rehabilitated. This is war, so act accordingly you fools.
