I find Maltese gay men who vote against abortion reprehensible and repulsive

Gay men have been victims of discrimination, harassment and abuse for years on end for their sexuality. They lived secret lives in shame and could never express themselves freely without getting mocked and beaten to a pulp by other men.

I was one of those who at a very young age used to attend Malta’s Gay Pride March when it was attended by literally just a dozen of people. I remember Sandro Mangion when he still had hair gathering us on the steps of the Royal Theatre to tell us not to give up hope as next year more people would attend the Gay Pride event.

Back then I don’t remember David Casa to have been involved in the gay rights movement. He was in the Nationalist Party, and for the sake of his career he kept his sexuality secret from the public. I am not judging him for this and this is what many gay men used to do back then.

However, I find it reprehensible and repulsive that after having been a member of a minority group that was victimized, now David Casa is campaigning against the right to abortion, making stupid statements about it and trying to appease his conservative voters with his reprehensible position. David Casa voted against a resolution in the European Parliament that will enshrine abortion rights in the European Fundamental Charter.

I don’t care if he secretly agrees with abortion rights and he is doing all this theatre just to appease his constituents. Politicians are not there just to take power for the sake of power. If they can’t change what’s wrong with our society they shouldn’t be politicians in the first place. And if they have been victims as members of a minority group who today has been granted its full rights, they should definitely not do anything that would trample on the rights of other minorities.

  1. In Malta, a clear distinction between and needs to be made.

Abortion rights are often mis-depicted as the capricious murder of an infant inside the womb.

THIS IS PURE RUBBISH GENERATED BY AN IGNORANT AND MISOGYNISTIC RC CHURCH WHICH HAS SEEDED ITS ROOTS DEEPLY INTO MALTESE CULTURE.

When a pregnant girl or woman is considering abortion, it is a way of safeguarding herself as well as the POTENTIAL infant within. There’s no such thing as a deliberate and capricious abortion. New life always means JOY. But if that life is jeopardized owing to adverse physical, psychological and social dilemmas, the last thing a woman needs is the imposition of guilt or prosecution. This is a very backward and very moronic state of affairs.

So called pro-lifers do not seem to realise that the life of the pregnant girl or woman and the life of the foetus are intertwined.

Therefore, it should be blatantly obvious that the life of the unborn is NOT in any way intertwined with anyone else’s – be s/he pope, doctor, politician etc. Obviously, when there is a contractual relationship between the sperm donor (aka the father) and the pregnant woman to have a child or children together, the woman is expected to meet her obligations.

With Abortion Rights come abortion obligations. To ensure the life inside is not yet conscious of pain, ideally, termination should not exceed 56 days (2 months) after fertilisation.

  2. Missing words in first sentence:
In Malta, a clear distinction between ‘abortion’ and abortion rights’ needs to be made.

Fortunately not everyone has lost his moral compass. Well done David Casa and Josianne Cutajar — continue to defend the voiceless.

  4. Some moral compass. Just walk all over the needs and ailments of women and girls ๐Ÿ™

  5. Rights? Who’s?

    1. Whose Right? The Right to ensure the mind and the body (not to mention society) are pregnancy-ready.
FYI pregnancy – whether it is planned or unplanned – is never guaranteed. It is always a wild happenstance. Like the throw of a dice.
      Nature is wild and random.
