Emmanuel Macron was on TV yesterday speaking about France’s involvement in the Allies’ defensive operation that helped Israel shoot down up to 300 missiles fired at it by Iran. He rationalised France’s actions by saying that France is in Jordan with an air base of its own on Jordan’s request and France is committed to the security of Israel. Jordan also participated in the defensive actions along with the UK and the US.
If Emmanuel Macron wants to put some reality in his tough talk on Russia’s war on Ukraine, he should follow suit with his actions in Jordan and do the same in Ukraine and providing it a constant and live missile defense system. There’s no logical reason why Macron wouldn’t do this except for the misguided fear of Russia and nuclear retaliation. Macron would also be following in the same footsteps ofย Nicolas Sarkozy who was the first to declare a “No-Fly Zone” in Libya in 2011.
Yesterday, when Matthew Miller, US State Department spokesperson was posed this same argument and comparison, he was unable to explain or provide any reason whatsoever why the US couldn’t replicate its actions of defending Israel, in Ukraine.
