According to the latest polls conducted by the Times of Malta, the European Parliament President Roberta Metsola is the most popular MEP candidate for Malta’s European Parliament elections. She surpasses the lead of the Labour Party’s candidate Alex Agius Saliba who is being backed by Joseph Muscat il-Knorr. A third of the electorate is not voting.
The fact that Alex Agius Saliba is leading among the Labour Party candidates is not good news for Robert Abela who looks like he is going to lose control of the Labour Party’s MEP group. On the other hand, Roberta Metsola’s lead in Malta also signals a shift in the country’s vision for Maltese politics itself, transitioning from the corrupt and criminal Labour establishment to something more modern and normal.
