The current Central Bank Governor and previous Finance Minister Edward Scicluna and previous Minister of Health Chris Fearne and Deputy-Prime Minister will be indicted to court along with dozens of others on accusations of having been complicit in fraud and money laundering. They are not among the list of individuals to be charged with money laundering.
As Minister for Health, Chris Fearne was not the person who signed the concession to Steward despite being Health Minister when the concession was awarded in 2018. Konrad Mizzi signed the concession as the Minister responsible for Public-Private-Partnerships and Chris Fearne was responsible to ensure the execution of the service. He offered to resign to the Labour Party’s Parliamentary Group upon his indictment, yesterday evening.
On the other hand, Edward Scicluna’s resignation as Central Bank Governor would have to be triggered immediately as soon as he is arraigned in court provided his contract and the Central Bank’s own employment regulations. As Finance Minister, Edward Scicluna financed all of the deals the government made with Vitals and Steward.
