Deputy-Prime Minister Chris Fearne, who served as Health Minister when Steward took over the public hospitals concessions deal from Vitals, is now being pushed in a very precarious position by Robert Abela in order to attack the Inquiring Magistrate. The right choice for Chris Fearne would be to refuse to take any part in this dictatorial theatrics and resign altogether.
Robert Abela is weaponising Chris Fearne’s innocence to discredit the inquiry and the Magistrate’s investigation altogether, however there is nothing strange or irregular in the fact that Chris Fearne will be arraigned along with Joseph Muscat and the others who participated and concocted this corrupt scheme. An extensive investigation on a case of corruption of this magnitude will have many branches, abettors and facilitators and they will all be caught in the wide investigative net of the authorities. It is up to these individuals to prove their innocence and this is how the justice system works. There is nothing controversial in this, but Robert Abela wants to undermine the whole process and this also suits him in the long-term in his attempt to weaken the authorities while consolidating impunity.
Chris Fearne has plenty of evidence to come out unscathed from the trial and he should chose to prove his innocence rather than be dragged along with Robert Abela in a fight against the judiciary. The executors of this corrupt scheme hated him and even tried to smear him to avoid culpability, and now, he would be playing into their hands if he stays on in politics as a weapon to discredit the judiciary.
