Just another Police investigator who wasn’t allowed to arrest Joseph Muscat

Yesterday, Jason Azzopardi posted a very interesting story on his Facebook page about a Police investigator at the Financial Crimes Investigative Department who was forced to resign after he was going to execute an arrest warrant for Joseph Muscat that was signed by the Inquiring Magistrate. This means that the Financial Crimes Investigations Department had actually requested the Magistrate to sign a warrant for Joseph Muscat’s arrest as per procedure.

I have also confirmed that this Police investigator was Police Superintendent James Grech who has been on termination leave since last February. This is the second Police officer from the Financial Crimes Investigations Department who is known to have been ready to arrest Joseph Muscat. The other Police officer who was ready to arrest Joseph Muscat was the actual head of the Financial Crimes Investigations Department, Sandro Camilleri himself. Sandro Camilleri was also forced to resign, and the description of Angelo Gafa’s behaviour in his post is strikingly similar to a story I reported here.

Top Police officers want Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa to resign as he is currently being accused of dereliction of duty and omission of duties. Angelo Gafa has been pressured by Prime Minister Robert Abela not to arrest Joseph Muscat for some time. Gradually, it’s becoming clearer that a considerable number of Police officers believe that their Police Commissioner is abetting and covering up for politically exposed criminal suspects.
