Mark – Can you think of any good reason MaltaToday leaked the report, given that Saviour Balzan is in the pocket of the government? I have a theory, a bit wild, I know, that Abela is deliberately trying to undermine Muscat and Fearne, thereby eliminating any competition. He knows Labour have a commanding lead over the PN. He’s seizing the opportunity to take full control, and cut the strings from his puppet-master. Your take on this would be valuable, as you have far more insight than me. How, otherwise, do you explain the fact that the AG and the police chose to bring proceedings so close to the elections?

    1. Damage control. MaltaToday got the inquiry from OPM. It is better if a pro-Labour newspaper releases the inquiry so it controls and minimises the damage. OPM won’t give the inquiry to me or to Caroline or Jacob Borg, they’ll give it to Saviour Balzan so that he smooths the bruising. Eventually, it would have gone out, so it is better if Saviour is first. BTW, this is totally unmeritocratic (as always). People like me produce investigative work on a daily basis. MaltaToday is the Labour Party’s English-language rag.

Thank you, Mark. I’m still puzzled by the fact that the AG and the CoP allowed criminal proceedings to be commenced in the run up to the elections. Any ideas?
