I’m a socialist but I support slave labour and slave traders

There are many shady things that are going on right now under the cover of the Vitals and Steward case. It is hard to keep up with everything, but something of importance that should definitely be a priority is the pending law that the government wants to propose next month on the employment of third-country nationals. I am told by various sources that the government is pushing a law that directly supports slave-traders at the expense of third-country nationals.

A small businessperson who runs a taxi service has informed me that Identity Malta, currently, under the remit of Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, have been disallowed to directly employ third-country nationals and instead were referred to employ them through a recruiting agency. The recruiting agency would inevitably take a cut from the working proceeds of the employees undercutting them even further.

The new law being proposed will also force Maltese employers to employ third-country nationals exclusively and only through recruiters. Basically, the government is incentivising and supporting a cheap-labour system whereas recruiters, most of them acting like slave-traders, will have a monopoly over the hiring of third-country nationals. Some Labour Party individuals like Charlon Gouder are involved in the business of importing third-country nationals for employment purposes.

Byron Camilleri is known to us Labourites of his generation as the poor and humble socialist. So far, he has never risen to these expectations, and instead, has joined Robert Abela’s inner circle to serve him uncritically and loyally.
