Prime Minister Robert Abela has made his decision on his politics and government politics moving forward from the catastrophic result of Labour at the European Parliament elections, and it’s continuity. Robert Abela and the Labour government will continue to struggle over their control of the Justice system through their apparatchiks and the crisis in rule of law will continue.
Robert Abela did indeed ponder over his decision to renewed Angelo Gafa’s contract as Police Commissioner, but the decision to appoint him again means that the Prime Minister is not yet shaken by the unfolding political consequences. Changes made to the top-brass in government and Labour are only cosmetic and not indeed to serve for any policy change.
At this stage, it is blatantly and absolutely clear that the Labour Party has a leadership problem and this experience is not new to Labour veterans. This is the same situation with Alfred Sant in 1998 when many Labour delegates and high profile figures understood that they would never win an election again with Alfred Sant as their leader. Ironically, back then, George Abela (Robert Abela’s father) was one of these individuals. The Labour Party’s political deterioration kept being extended by opportunistic imbeciles like Jason Micallef who extolled their Dear Leader for pure opportunistic and personal reasons.
Today, the Labour Party makes the same calculating mistake with their Leader by keeping him in and look forward to their electoral doom as they speak behind his back over his catastrophic performance and policies. No one has the courage to kick the can and start the rebellion, only many who leave or are expelled. Today, there is a criminal and shadowy background to all that it is going on behind Robert Abela’s retrenchment. Strategically, his worse mistake, apart from the blatant immorality of it, is to uphold a Devil’s Pact with Joseph Muscat and drag down the Labour Party, the State and the nation with them.
250 years of Opposition it is then.
