Exit polls of French elections are out and it doesn’t look good for Macron

Shops in France and Paris are being boarded up as riots are expected when election results come out. Exit polls show that the French President, Emmanuel Macron’s coalition came third with 21% of the vote. The far-right, Rassemblement National came first with 34% of the vote and the left block (Front Pupulaire) came second with 29% of the vote.

A second runoff may take place with three major parties unless the left decides to back down, and backs Macron’s coalition to defeat the far-right.  Melenchon the leader of the communists (La France Insoumise) has said he is ready to back down in favour of Macron. The far-right will have a much better chance of winning the runoff if the runoff is ran on three parties instead of two.

Macron announced snap elections last month following his defeat at the European Parliament elections.
