I followed Johann Grech’s recent story like most of you did, but I didn’t have much to say about him given that nothing has changed since then other than the preposterous and pretentious imbecile keeps proving my point. The Malta Film Commission is not actually doing anything other than mostly spending millions of Euros to for the private entertainment of Labour MPs and Johann Grech himself. We don’t need Johann Grech to promote tax rebates and free money.
If I were to say something in reaction to what has been said in the press about the appalling behaviour of Johann Grech, I’d say I’d agree with all of the criticism against him and more. The man is totally unfit for purpose and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
From my personal interest, his behaviour and that of many current culture executives in the government vindicate my past as a government executive. As a government executive soecialising in a different cultural sector, I can claim to having had announced, without much funfare and a ceremony that cost a couple of hundred of Euros, the biggest local subsidy for local film-makers. This, eventually compelled the Malta Film Commission to increase their own subsidy to local film-makers because they couldn’t be practically outmatched by another local and culture entity with a different specialisation.
Had I stayed in my role, I would have kept outmatching the Malta Film Commission in funding for local films in my free time of my free time. Even a cashier with till experience can be better.
