Deo Debattista’s visit to the Intensive Treatment Unit at Mater Dei was for one of his patients

Deo Debattista’s visit to the ITU at Mater Dei on Thursday was made for one of his patients, and the incident is unrelated to ongoing case of Jesmond Gatt.

He was at the ITU on Thursday at around 8pm having gained access to the unit by the security who were informed in advance of his arrival. After he was let in, a doctor-on-duty asked him what he was doing there. Deo Debattista replied by telling the doctor that he was there to visit one of his patients. The doctor replied by telling him that he had to wait for his patient outside because he didn’t work there. At this instruction, Deo Debattista burst out in anger and told the ITU  doctor;

“Do you know who you are speaking to? I can go wherever I want because I am a doctor.” The doctor then politely instructed him once again to leave the unit.

There is also footage available of the incident.

    Only a Notary Public and a Marixxal can ‘go anywhere’. If a doctor does not have tenure within a particular hospital his status is that of a ‘visitor’.
