Bangladeshi student leader Nahid Islam, who was tortured and beaten by the police, vowed to keep up the protests after police killed more than 170 protesters. Meanwhile, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina blamed the protests on the main opposition party, the Bangladeshi National Party, and vowed to crush the protests.
Bangladeshi students have been protesting newly introduced government quotas on civil service employment that would allocate as much as half of the government posts to allies and supporters of the current party in power. The police have used various armed methods to stop and quell the protests, including deploying a helicopter, as shown below, in fulfilling the orders of their government.
