More about the close relationship between George Abela and Ryan Fava.
The Malta Dockers’ Union supported George Abela’s leadership bid for the Labour Party in 2008 against Joseph Muscat even by canvassing and donating to his campaign. Basically, all of the disenfranchised Labourites and many Mintoffians had voted for George Abela for Labour Party leader. Having broken ranks with Alfred Sant’s leadership (George Abela was Deputy Leader of the Labour Party), George Abela spent those years rallying Labourites who were alienated from Alfred Sant. The MDU was a breakaway union from the General Workers Union.
Today, Ryan Fava, a previous leader of the MDU is one of the most trusted and senior government executives of the Labour government having been appointed CEO of Enemalta when Malta is going through an electric-grid crisis.
