A statement issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran has said that Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has been assassinated. His IRGC escort was also targeted.
The statement was also corroborated by another statement by Hamas issued later.
Ismail Haniyeh was the Chairman of the Political Bureau of Hamas. He was the one who officially declared war against Israel following the 7th October attacks by Hamas telling Israelis that in Palestine “there is no place or safety for you”. His statement was recorded at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha, Qatar where he was living. Later on Qatar expelled the Hamas leaders living in its country.
