Daniel Meli left a long internet footprint of his illegal activity before getting caught by the FBI, having exposed himself at an early stage.
This basically means that Daniel Meli had a history of illegal activity online that could have been easily discovered had the Maltese Police did the bare minimum. Instead of being caught at an early stage with the consequential result of facing Maltese Justice, the FBI allowed him to commit various acts before they closed down on him.
This also means that Police Commissioner Angelo Gafa’s cyber crimes unit can’t prevent Maltese citizens from doing the most ignorant type of incriminating cuber crime. Not to mention that the Police and the Maltese State should fight over their jurisdiction over their citizens – at least, they should do so in the same extent they protect their international criminal friends.
Meanwhile, the Police’s cyber-crime unit is busy sending letters to international media platforms on hate speech and whatnot.
So reckless, it hurts.
