10 Latin American States refuse to recognise Nicolás Maduro’s dictatorship

Earlier this week the Supreme Court of Venezuela declared that Nicolás Maduro has won the elections. Maduro lost the presidential elections by a very wide margin. yet he is fraudulently declaring an election victory. Maduro and his party got around 20% of the votes. More than 25 people have been killed by the police and the military during national protests against Maduro. The Russian Wagner Group was also involved in suppressing protests.

Ten Latin American countries have rejected the Venezuela Supreme Court’s decision to acknowledge Maduro’s fake victory. The countries, that issued a joint-statement along with the United States (below) are Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. The United States government has also issued a statement denouncing the Venezuela Supreme Court decision.
