BREAKING: Malta’s top white-hat hackers charged along with their lecturer

The Police and the Attorney-General are using maximum force to prosecute and charge Malta’s top white-hat hackers for a white hacking story that was resolved privately. The charges are shocking and extremely disturbing. Whoever conjured these charges clearly intends to come down with extreme force on a group of individuals who in reality did nothing illegal whatsoever. This is not rule of law, but spite and pure vengeance.

Giorgio Grigolo, Luke Bjorn Scerri and Michael Debono pointed out a security flaw with regard a popular student application and asked for a bounty in exchange for not revealing the security flaw of the application. This is a common practice in the cyber world where white hackers find security faults in popularly-used systems. Their lecture, Mark Joseph Vella, who tutored and guided them in the process is also being charged.

Keep in mind that while all of this is happening, Maltese journalists have been attacked by a Chinese Ministry of Defense-sanctioned hacker group (APT31) and the Maltese government is selling passports to fraudulent individuals tied to foreign and hostile security services who have been proven to be part of serious illegal activity.

There is a decadent, spiteful and dark culture that has taken over the Police and the Office of the Attorney-General that is playing into the hands of hostile foreign security services that want our nation vulnerable and insecure. I don’t care if they have “good intentions”. The people who signed these charges are grossly irresponsible and are compromising our national security by punishing the brightest children of the nation.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri has to resign. Enough is enough.

but tl;dr, it was just mentioned that it’s a customary practice in the industry to reward people based on the companies discretion if users of their platform find such a flaw.

Revealing the security flaw to the public after a suitable deadline is simply a recommended practice by the European cybersecurity organisation themselves, so that companies do not delay on fixing the vulnerabilities. Such vulnerabilities are usually a matter of national security!

This is absolute madness, and shows the level of sheer incompetence within the Malta Police Force. Furthermore, it shows how strenght is used on the weak, and not the masterminds behnd the now institutionalised crime and corruption. Keep it up Malta, not that there’s much left!!
