Times of Malta conducted a very weak interview with Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri, during which he exhibited strong cognitive dissonance regarding what is being communicated to him. The Minister of Interior thinks that he can sit down and listen to criticism to improve upon his work.
Byron Camilleri is delusional, and this is very likely a symptom of suddenly experiencing a lot of power, rather than ascending to power gradually. Byron Camilleri never had any meaningful work experience before becoming Minister of the Interior and he took over this portfolio during a rule of law crisis and during one of Malta’s most sensitive historic times.
His colleagues and friends in Labour cover up for him because he is “a good person”, and no one can dispute that, but he is exceeding the limits of what can be tolerated of a good man all the while the rule of law crisis keeps getting worse under his watch, not to mention the grave and widespread impunity to organised criminals and politicians. Ultimately, he, along with Justice Minister Jonathan Attard, is responsible for criminally undermining the rule of law.
Byron Camilleri is largely responsible for plunging our nation into an even deeper crisis, and the fact that he seeks to refute this narrative demonstrates both arrogance and a sense of delusion, clearly making him out of touch with the reality around him.
