As expected, the Labour Party’s political appointees of public cultural institutions are signing the praises of Glenn Micallef: the incompetent Labour hack who has been nominated as EU Commissioner for Youth and Culture. Glenn Micallef’s first policy proposal is a directive against “cyber-bullying”: an obvious and underhanded attack against free speech which Labour has also been trying to push in local laws.
Here is Teatru Malta’s political statement about Glenn Micallef. The statement was written by Sean Buhagiar who leads Teatru Malta and has had his theatre career (or theatrical career for that matter, if you know what I mean) fully funded by the Labour government. Sean Buhagiar has a history of using government funds to appease government loyalists and pro-Labour executives such as when he worked with Albert Marshall (the head of the Arts Council) to organise theatre about his poetry at the Manoel Theatre.
It sounds absurd that government executives would work and collaborate with each other as they use government funds to promote their projects and art, but by now, we know very well that these people have no shame in pigging-out to build their artistic careers as they ingratiate with their political masters.
Note that the government’s plan to prop up Glenn Micallef as a public figure with the youth and the local culture industry will serve him well when he returns back to Malta to contest the elections with the Labour Party.
For more information about Glenn Micallef you can read this article and this one. As Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister, Glenn Micallef was responsible for filling government and state entities with Labour loyalists, creating chaos and disruption in the government as the government was equipped with incompetent Labour loyalists.
